Scholarship Description: A 22 month postdoc position is available at the Studenec campus of the Institute of Vertebrate Biology, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic within the framework of the EU funded project “Next-generation technologies in evolutionary genetics” to apply multilocus population genetics approaches to the analysis of genomic data, in particular analysis of dense SNP data from admixture systems, inference over combined geographic and genomic data from hybrid zones and introgression analyses of natural species barriers. The successful candidate will have wide interests and a thirst for deep understanding. They will be intellectually mature, quick to learn, but slow to rush to hasty conclusions. They will have experience in several of the following: algorithmics, population genetics, probability, inference, high dimensional visualization, information theory, evolution, languages, and the scientific method. They will be interested in several more of these topics. The postdoc academic advisors are trained in computer science, population genetics, and classical genetics and have long experience of inference in evolutionary studies. The candidate’s existing and proposed work will be judged on its quality and utility to the scientific community rather than gross number of publications. Those hoping for large numbers of hasty publications need not apply.
