Doctoral Research Position in Germany and Canada Coupled Modelling of Vegetation – Hydrology Dynamics 2013

The IRTG at the Universities of Tübingen (Germany), Hohenheim (Germany) and Waterloo (Canada) is inviting applications for PhD research position.

This doctoral research position is available for three years. The applicants have to do the main work in Germany and the training part of Canada for six months. Disabled person and women researchers are encouraged for applying this position. Email the complete application by October 1st, 2013.

The goal of the project will be to couple spatially-explicit models of vegetation dynamics with models of hydrodynamics on a landscape-scale, for studying pattern formation and selection for certain functional traits in vegetation as a function of climate and geomorphology. The novelty of this approach is that both hydrology and vegetation are regarded as dynamic in space and time, as opposed to purely hydrological or ecological modelling. The position will be embedded in the International Research Training Group (IRTG) “Integrated Hydrosystem Modelling” The IRTG at the Universities of Tübingen (Germany), Hohenheim (Germany), and Waterloo (Canada) targets at developing and applying numerical models of flow and reactive solute transport in coupled hydrosystems comprising of land-surface and subsurface compartments. The IRTG offers a structured PhD program at Tübingen with joint international training and supervision.

PhD Fellowships in Ecological Interactions at Surfaces and Interfaces at IMPRS Deadline June 29 2012

Scholarships at Germany PhD Fellowships in Ecological Interactions at Surfaces and Interfaces at IMPRS, International Max Planck Research School in the field of bioinformatics, analytical chemistry, entomology, neurobiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, plant physiology and genetics 2012. Many key ecological interactions between plants, herbivores, bacteria and fungi occur at different surfaces. These form the boundaries between organisms and their aerial, aquatic, or subterranean environments, as well as the interfaces of organisms interacting with each other. The release or detection of odors and other chemical signals occurs at surfaces; surface biofilms made by bacteria and diatoms create unique environmental niches. Yet very little information is available on compounds and proteins playing a role in the local communication processes at these interfaces.

Study Subject(s):Ecological interactions at surfaces and interfaces
Level:PhD
Provider: International Max Planck Research School
Can be taken at: Germany
No Open for International Students
How to Apply: Online
Application Deadline: June 29, 2012

Eligibility:
Enthusiastic PhD students with strong interests in the above-described central topic. Applicants should have a firm background in one of the following fields: bioinformatics, analytical chemistry, entomology, neurobiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, plant physiology and genetics. All our projects are highly integrative and require willingness to closely collaborate with researchers of different backgrounds.
