Postgraduate Research Scholarship in Innovation and product development and bioprocess technology at New Zealand universities, Dick and Mary Earle established this scholarship for the support and encouragement of postgraduate research into aspects of technology in New Zealand universities.

Technology is important to the well-being and the enhanced social fabric of the community; and it is hoped that through the scholarship suitably qualified graduates will improve their own capacity to advance technology and also make a contribution to technological knowledge relevant to New Zealand. This scholarship is to provide funds for individuals to undertake research towards a masters or doctorate degree at a New Zealand university or research institution in one or both of the following fields: Innovation and product development, bioprocess technology.

Eligibility:
The scholarship is available for up to three years according to the course of university study. Applications can be made by students who have completed an undergraduate degree in any of the following: BTech, BEng, BE or equivalent and are either a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident. As part of the application criteria students must submit a proposed project to the panel. The relevance of this project for New Zealand manufacturers, products or services is a key consideration for the scholarship selection board.

What it covers: The scholarships are valued at $17,000 per annum at masters level and $20,000 per annum at PhD level, and may be used in any way that helps the scholars to meet the purposes of the award.

Tenure: The scholarship is available for up to three years according to the course of study. It would normally be expected that scholars would study for one degree at a university. Payments will be made six-monthly and dependent on a positive and satisfactory report on progress from the institution at which they are studying. unsatisfactory progress may lead to termination of the award. It is intended that, subject to availability of finance, there will be up to six scholarships at any one time, one being normally offered annually in each of the two fields designated.
